A former native of Hong Kong, filmmaker Mark Tang returned after a twelve-year absence to witness the transition in 1997 from British to Chinese rule and documented what he witnessed in Year of the Ox: Hong Kong Journal '97 (featuring original music by local jazz pianist-composer John Sims, Jr.).
A preview of his most recent work, East of China: A Personal Journey, profiles rural communities of Asian-Americans during Tang's search for his own America. Another narrative project (TBA) by this award-winning local filmmaker completes the program.
Co-sponsored with Independent Film Project/North.
